It’s Amazon Pilot season, and we’re getting our first look at the new shows that will debut on Amazon Video (read our review here) this spring. The lineup is definitely interesting and varied, and branches out into some brand new content for Amazon. The new pilot season brings a superhero, a pot comedy, an animated show for adults, and a show from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.
If you’re not familiar with Amazon’s Pilot Season, it’s where they present a series of shows, and fans vote which ones should be picked up for a full run.
Here’s a rundown of each show that will debut on March 17 in the United States, the UK, Germany, Austria and Japan:
The Legend of Master Legend: A comedy inspired by the real life “superhero” Master Legend, an Orlando based vigilante who patrols the streets on his own time, doing good and allegedly apprehending criminals. The show from Amazon follows a homemade superhero in Las Vegas as he tries to balance his day to day life and family with his alter ego.
Budding Prospects: As the name implies, this is a pot comedy. Set in 1983 San Francisco, it follows three city boys who move to the country to grow marijuana. They expect a “return to nature” environment that’ll heal their souls, but they find “The Summer Camp” – a miserable, run down shack in the middle of nowhere, filled with rats, snakes, mosquitoes, and fairly unfriendly growing conditions. Add in noisy neighbors, dangerous locals, and law enforcement that won’t leave them alone, and it’s going to be a lot tougher than they planned.
The New V.I.P.’s: An animated comedy for adults that follows a group of low level employees who take control of a major corporation after they accidentally murder their boss.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: From Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of Gilmore Girls, this show follows a 1950’s New York City housewife who becomes a stand up comic in Greenwich Village.
Oasis: Follows a chaplain who is sent into space to help establish a colony on a distant planet.
