One of the biggest questions we receive deals with DIRECTV. People want to know if they can stream DIRECTV without a satellite. If you’re thinking of cutting the cord, knowing your options can be important. So, knowing whether or not DIRECTV streaming is available can be a make or break decision for some people. The simple answer is that while Direct TV streaming is not technically available, DIRECTV NOW, the streaming equivalent to DIRECTV is available.
The main difference between DIRECTV streaming and DIRECTV NOW is that the packages are a little different and DIRECTV NOW will save you money. If you’re planning to cut the cord, DIRECTV NOW gives you the feel of what it would be like to stream DIRECTV, without the larger price tag. So, let’s look at some of what you receive with DIRECT TV streaming.
Can I Stream DIRECTV without a Satellite?
If you want to stream DIRECTV, your best option is DIRECTV NOW. DIRECTV NOW is a streaming service and you don’t need a satellite to use it. In fact, the only equipment you need is a computer or streaming device. Other than that, just a membership and an Internet connection is all that is required.
What Channels are Available with DIRECTV Streaming?
DIRECTV NOW offers four packages. You can get the $35/month package and receive 60+ channels or you can get the $70/month package, offering more than 120 channels. The two middle packages are $50 and $60, respectively.
Each package offers everything from the previous package with a little bit more. Every package receives channels like: A&E, AMC, BBC America, BET, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery, Disney, Disney XD, Food Network, FOX News, Freeform, FX, Hallmark, History, MTV, National Geographic, Spike, Syfy, TNT, TV Land, and USA. Of course, these are just some of the channels that you’ll receive. The largest package includes 8 Starz channels. You can also add channels. One of the best deals in streaming is the DIRECTV NOW HBO add-on, which gives you HBO for just $5/month. You can learn more about DIRECTV NOW channel availability, here.
Perhaps the biggest difference between DIRECTV NOW and DIRECTV streaming via satellite comes with the addition of local channels. Channels like ABC, FOX, NBC, and CBS can be notoriously difficult to get on any streaming service and even more so if you live somewhere beyond New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. That said, DIRECTV NOW does offer ABC, FOX, and NBC, (CBS is coming soon) in select local areas. If you’re not in a local area, nationwide on-demand access is available.
How about DVR Service?
While you often do receive a DVR with DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW doesn’t currently offer DVR service. A cloud-based DVR is in the works however. They also have an extensive on-demand library, so it’s possible that the show you’d want to record is available in the on-demand library.
What Devices get DIRECTV Streaming?
DIRECTV NOW is available on most streaming devices. You can watch on computers, cell phones, and tablets. You can also watch on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, and other devices.
