Are you obsessed with Property Brothers? Do you love watching “those tiny house shows” to see people try to fit their lives into less than 100 square feet? Do you love design competition shows? If you said yes to any of these questions, you might be a little addicted to HGTV. While the network has evolved over the years, it has been the go-to place to get your fix for home improvement television. Whether it is a complete home renovation or learning how to make color pop in a room, the HGTV live stream is on your priority list.
So if you’re thinking about ditching cable, you might find yourself a little short of breath when you consider you may no longer have access to your favorite network. But can you watch HGTV without cable? You can, and here’s how!
Watch the HGTV Live Stream with Sling TV
Sling TV is becoming the most popular choice for streaming television. All you need is a high speed internet connection, $20 a month to spend, and something to watch it on. (More on this in a minute.)
HGTV is part of Sling TV’s basic Orange package, which includes tons of programming otherwise only available with a paid TV account. But you don’t have to remain tied to cable or satellite bills any more. With Sling TV, their monthly subscription has no contract, so you can cancel at any time.
And, like we said, you need something to watch it on. Sling TV works with most of the streaming players on the market today, like Roku and Apple TV. They even offer discounts or special deals on these players when you sign up, so check out their current promotions for more details. You can also watch on your computer or smart device.
Watch These Other Networks with Sling TV
If you like HGTV, you may also like some other popular networks that show real life people do real life things. They may be competition shows or daily enrichment. But missing out on them would be less than good. With Sling TV you can also watch the Food Network, Maker, and the Travel Channel.
You can also add the Lifestyle Extra package for just an additional $5 more per month. With it, you can watch:
- Cooking Channel
And so much more.

Another Way to Watch HGTV Online is with DIRECTV NOW
DIRECTV NOW is a streaming service brought to you by AT&T, and it will get you live channels as well as on-demand, without any contracts or extra charges.
DIRECTV brand has been around for a while, but this is not as you know it: you won’t need a dish or any other equipment to join. HGTV will be streamed to your devices over the internet, so you can watch wherever you are – even on your laptop!
That is even more true because that there are no mobile restrictions at this time. If you are customer of AT&T cell service, any streaming you do from DIRECTV NOW’s app will be free of charge! That’s right, it won’t count against your data, no what you are watching on or where you are located.
DIRECTV NOW (review) is still getting started, but here is a breakdown of the service as it stands now. Channel bundle pricing starts at $35/month and includes over 60 channels, plus on-demand. Some channels may not be available for live streaming at this time, but you will be able to watch them next day.
DIRECTV NOW should be an easy switch for those who are used to the guide from your standard cable-box. The controls are very similar to what you are accustomed to.
As a first time customer, if you act fast, there are some awesome promotions that can get you more value for your money.
Right now it is possible to get an Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV stick in exchange for paying a few months in advance (between one and three months depending on the device). Check their website for the most recent offers.

Stream HGTV Live on PlayStation Vue
The only other way to watch the HGTV live stream is with PlayStation Vue. This service, which in many ways is similar to Sling TV, does have a few more restrictions. It is more expensive, starting at $30 to $40 per month depending on your location. It also doesn’t work with as many players. And, your account is tied to your home location so streaming on the go is restricted, even with their mobile apps.
However, PlayStation Vue is a viable option so it is worth checking out before you make a decision. Here is our review.
Use On Demand Services to Watch HGTV Online
Otherwise, if HGTV streaming live isn’t your priority, you may be able to watch some shows on Netflix or even Hulu. But, these shows are usually released long after they originally air. And Netflix has a habit of releasing “collections” of HGTV shows, so you may not even get a complete season. But, if you’re a Netflix customer, it may be fine for you to miss out on HGTV live streaming.
