However, there can be all sorts of reasons to cancel Netflix, from wanting to save on budget to wanting to try a different service. Follow the steps below to stop Netflix.
How to Cancel Netflix: Step by Step Guide
Netflix is a pay-as-you-go, month to month service, so there’s no contract and you can cancel at any time. It’s pretty straightforward to cancel Netflix through the website. Follow the steps below to get rid of Netflix.
1. Sign into your account
Go to Netflix.com, and sign into your account. At the top right of your page, you should see a sign-inn option. Note: you should do this on your computer, not on your streaming device.
2. Select your Admin account
After signing in you, you’ll be automatically directed to the “Who’s Watching?” page. If you have multiple profiles, choose the admin account. This is the one you originally signed up for Netflix with. If you don’t have multiple profiles, simply click your profile.
3. Choose your profile and click “Your Account”
Once you’re all signed in (to your Admin account), you’ll be brought to the Netflix content page where you would normally watch videos. To continue cancelling Netflix, head up to the upper right of the page, and click on your profile name. A drop-down style menu should appear, and then, you can click “Your Account” to bring you to the settings page for your membership and account info.
4. Choose “Cancel Membership”
On this page, there’s a large “Cancel Membership” button on the left. Just click it, and you’ll continue to the final step.
5. Choose “Finish cancellation”
Next, click on Finish Cancellation to stop Netflix, and you’ll be all set. If you’ve changed your mind at this point, you can just go back or close your browser.
What if I Stop Netflix Mid-Month?
What happens if you get rid of Netflix in the middle of your payment term? This is a common question we get from those wondering how to cancel Netflix. Well, it’s a simple answer – once you’ve paid for the month, it’s considered “pre-paid”, so while you won’t get a refund, you’ll still have access to your account for the month following your most recent payment. So if you pay for a month on April 4th, your Netflix access will continue to May 4th even after you cancel. You can continue watching content on Netflix until the end of your prepaid time period. When you cancel Netflix, the final page will notify you of the date your access will end.
One thing to note is that Netflix stores your viewing preferences and history for up to 10 months. So, if you come back and restart membership on your same account, you should still have viewing preferences and history saved.
