Hulu with Live TV Reaches 1 Million Subscribers Just in Time for Emmys

Hulu

Hulu is heating up. While it might not yet have the numbers Netflix or Amazon do, Hulu’s library of original and licensed content is drawing subscribers in left and right. Some of TV’s most popular shows stream exclusively on Hulu, making it more attractive than some of its other unnamed competitors whose original content doesn’t always live up to its hype. Aside from their on-demand library, though, Hulu’s new Live TV feature is also proving to be increasingly popular with cable cutters. In fact, Hulu announced just this week that Hulu with Live TV has reached a major milestone: one million subscribers. Are live TV channels the future of streaming video?

It increasingly seems that way. Hulu’s live TV service has now reached one million subscribers, and Hulu is taking somewhat of a victory lap during the 2018 Emmy awards. During the award ceremony set to air Monday, September 17, Hulu will debut a new star-studded commercial touting its successes both critically and financially. The ad features the Houston Rockets’ James Harden, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, Sophia Vergara, Joe Manganiello, Sarah Silverman, and more.

Hulu’s chief marketing officer Kelly Campbell says that the ad is intended to reach out to those cable cutters who are still on the fence about Hulu and portray the streaming service as an alternative to both TV and typical on-demand only subscription services:

This has been a pretty big year for Hulu. We have won some historic awards and, importantly, grown our business tremendously. People think of us as TV. That’s great, but we need people to take another look so they realize all we have to offer now. We are basically saying Hulu is a better way to watch television.

Hulu with Live TV, which has stepped up as a full-on cable replacement for many households, not only offers access to Hulu’s massive library of award-winning on-demand content like Atlanta and The Handmaid’s Tale, but also an extensive list of over 60 of the best cable and broadcast channels including sports, movies, news, and more.
