Netflix Testing Merchandise Market With Official ‘Stranger Things’ Gear

When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix last summer, it was an instant hit, quickly becoming the THE pop culture event of the summer and the most popular show on the streaming service in some time.

While there have been tons of parodies (on Saturday Night Live even) and homages in other media, plus lots of knockoff products, the one thing there hasn’t been is official merchandise – until now.

Just in time for the holidays, Netflix has partnered with Hot Topic and BoxLunch to product a line of official show products like t-shirts, tanks, pins, patches, collectables, and even Eleven’s iconic dress. There’s a Christmas light necklaces that spells out messages, an actual Dungeons and Dragons die, several key chains and more as well.

Starting Dec. 1, fans of the show can purchase official Stranger Things products at both Hot Topic and BoxLunch stores, and their respective web sites. There’s even a Christmas light necklaces that spells out messages, an actual Dungeons and Dragons die, several key chains and more.

Speaking about merchandise from original shows, Netflix’s top content executive, Ted Sarandos, said “Down the road there might be some real business there.”

It makes sense that Netflix is testing the merchandise waters with Stranger Things. It was the first original series Netflix both developed and produced in house, meaning that merchandise licensing is incredibly easy.
