Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season is over. The first week of the NFL offered a sneak-peak into what lies ahead for the rest of the reason and showed this season is already drawing huge numbers of viewers. In fact, some of the measures of NFL ratings for week 1 were the highest they’ve been in three years. Here’s a breakdown of how each network fared in the NFL week 1 ratings.
The big winner for week one was the Cowboys-Panthers games on FOX Sunday. That game was broadcast in 80% of local and regional markets and boasted a 15.7 overnight rating last week, up one percent from last year’s first Sunday game but down 7% from 2016. Still, 15.7 is the second-highest week 1 national window since 49ers-Cowboys in 2014 with a 17.4 rating and is now the seventh-highest week 1 game since 2004.
The primetime Packers-Bears on NBC’s Sunday Night Football ended week 1 with a 14.4, down 9% from last year’s opening SNF match up between the Giants and the Cowboys. That game marks NBC’s lowest week 1 SNF since Packers-Bears nine years ago. Still, 14.4 is the highest primetime Packers game since 2015.
For the early afternoon games, CBS brought in a 10.6 with its coverage. That’s up 23% from last year and the highest for the week 1 singleheader games since 2015. FOX earned an 8.8 for its regional coverage featuring 49ers-Vikings in regional markets, up from last year but down 19% from 2016.
