In an email sent out to subscribers Wednesday, PlayStation Vue announced it would be dropping beIN Sports from its service as of Thursday, June 8. The announcement is a serious blow for soccer fans who rely on the channel to keep up with some of their favorite teams from around the world.
The email reads:
Dear PlayStation Vue customer,
We hope you’re enjoying your subscription to PlayStation Vue. We Want to let you know that as of Thursday, June 8, 2017, beIN SPORTS will no longer be offered by PlayStation Vue. When this happens, you will no longer be able to watch the channel, and any beIN Sports programs saved in your DVR will no longer be accessible.
There is no long-term commitment required for any PlayStation Vue plan and you can change your plan at any time. To modify your subscription, just visit psvue.com/subscription.
Soccer fans are very familiar with beIN Sports. The channel carries matches from La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Copa del Rey, and more in the US. It also airs some rugby, motorcycle racing, and more.
beIN Sports is owned by beIN Media Group, a spinoff of Al Jazeera Network.
Update 6/13: beIN Sports has released the following statement:
For soccer fans and passionate viewers of the quality programming on beIN SPORTS, we regret to inform you we’ve reached an impasse involving our contract with Playstation Vue. Sony has refused to renew the contract with our channel and chosen to remove us from their PSVUE service. Because of this unilateral decision, our loyal subscribers like you will be deprived of access to beIN as of today. We made every possible effort to reach a deal with Sony since we believe the top sports leagues, games, insights and analysis should be made available to the largest possible audience of fans. Regrettably, Sony has decided that our value proposition is not enough for their viewers.
We encourage you to call 877-VueSony (883-7669) ext. “0” to demand they return the beIN SPORTS channels without making you pay more. Alternatively, you can visit getbein.beinsports.com/us for immediate access to beIN SPORTS through our valued partners.
