If you're a Sling TV subscriber, you're probably familiar with the AirTV Player. It's a streaming media box that is Android based, but boots straight to Sling, and includes access to Sling TV content, over the air content through an antenna, and Netflix all from one menu. Recently, the AirTV received an upgrade to get better integration for over the air networks. And now it looks like another upgrade is on the way. According to a Tweet from the official AirTV Twitter account, the Air TV will soon be an upgrade from Android Marshmallow to the Android 7.0 Nougat. No date was given for the rollout but should be coming soon. Updates are installed automatically for the Air TV, so current owners don't need to do anything extra. Users likely won't notice the changes right way, as there won't be any design or interface differences. Mostly, the update will make back end improvements like better multi-tasking (meaning faster loading times), a more user-friendly settings menu, and additional support for multiple Google accounts. If you're not familiar with how the AirTV Player works, it really is a great device for cord cutters. It has an OTA antenna connection, meaning over the air channels are displayed right alongside Sling TV content, with no switching between apps or inputs necessary. There's also support for Netflix, making it one of the most user-friendly streaming boxes around. Sling TV is currently offering $80 off the AirTV Player and Adapter with a prepaid subscription. While this might not sound like a huge upgrade to most people, it's actually somewhat significant. Right now, the only streaming box that runs Android 7.0 is the Nvidia Shield. The Mi Box is testing Nougat from Google, making it the only other box that ties directly to Sling the way AirTV does. This wouldn't necessarily entice a newcomer to purchase the device, but it's definitely a welcome addition for people who are already using one.
