Starting this week, Sling TV subscribers in the Boston area have a new addition to their channel lineup. The streaming service recently announced a new deal with WBTS, meaning viewers can now watch their local NBC affiliate live, including The Today Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sunday Night Football, and more. NBC Boston will be replacing the NBC on demand channel on Sling in the actual lineup, but customers will still be able to watch on demand content from popular shows like Blacklist and This is Us.
Sling Blue subscribers in Boston don’t need to do anything to get their new channel – it will automatically be added to their channel guide. If you’re near Boston and you’re not sure if you’re included in this update, just visit the Sling TV Help Center and click “Show My Available Channels.”
Now, Boston residents can get their fix of local weather, traffic, and news, plus morning shows like Rachael Ray, entertainment like Access Hollywood, and of course live sports.
As more and more people decide to move from cable to a streaming service, local networks are quickly becoming a must-have commodity. Boston now joins Chicago, New York, San Francisco, LA, Philly, Dallas, Hartford, DC, San Diego, and Miami as cities that have their local NBC affiliate live on Sling. About 30 other cities have their local NBC affiliate on demand with Sling.
The addition of the NBC affiliate alone likely isn’t enough to make any Bostonians decide to make the switch to Sling, but as more local affiliates get added, the choice is becoming easier and easier. Now that NBC Boston has arrived on Sling though, the one question many subscribers are asking is, when will CSN New England be arriving? It came to several markets earlier this year, but nothing has been announced for the Boston area yet.
