For a limited time, you can watch the first episode of the CBS All-Access hit Star Trek: Picard completely free – even if you’re not a subscriber.

Thanks to a merger between Viacom and CBS last year, Pluto TV (owned by Viacom), is offering the premier episode on their Sci-Fi channel. Also, CBS announced that the same episode will be available to stream on CBS.com for free until February 5.

The show, which premiered last week and broke records for CBS All-Access, follows Jean-Luc Picard, the retired admiral of the Enterprise, as he deals with the loss of Lieutenant Commander Data and the complete destruction of Romulus. The show broke the record for total streams and the record for the highest number of subscribers streaming an original show on the service.

Picard has attracted great reviews from both critics and regular fans, so if you’re interested in seeing what all the excitement is out without a financial commitment, here’s your chance. And even if you haven’t seen a second of any other Star Trek programming, reviewers say this show stands on its own pretty well.
